Background of the Study
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to the ethical commitment of businesses to contribute to the well-being of society through sustainable and socially responsible practices. In the healthcare sector, CSR can take many forms, including donations, community health programs, and environmental initiatives. Private hospitals, in particular, are often viewed as profit-driven entities, but many have begun to realize the importance of CSR in enhancing their public image, building trust with patients, and contributing to the broader community. In Gombe State, Nigeria, private healthcare providers are critical in complementing public healthcare services, which often suffer from limited resources and capacity.

Private hospitals in Gombe State have increasingly adopted CSR initiatives, not only as a way to support their communities but also as a means to enhance healthcare service delivery. These initiatives may include providing free medical care, supporting healthcare education, and engaging in environmental sustainability projects. While these efforts are seen as beneficial to the community, the actual impact of CSR on healthcare service delivery remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the role of CSR in enhancing healthcare service delivery at private hospitals in Gombe State. By examining the CSR practices of private healthcare providers and their direct impact on healthcare outcomes, the study will provide valuable insights into the contribution of CSR to the healthcare sector.

Statement of the Problem
While corporate social responsibility (CSR) is often associated with improving the public image and community relations of private hospitals, the tangible benefits of CSR in terms of healthcare service delivery remain underexplored. In Gombe State, several private healthcare providers have implemented CSR initiatives aimed at improving access to healthcare, supporting health education, and promoting overall well-being. However, the relationship between CSR activities and the quality of healthcare services provided by these institutions is not well documented.

It is not clear whether CSR initiatives in private hospitals in Gombe State result in measurable improvements in service delivery, such as enhanced patient care, increased access to healthcare, or improved community health outcomes. Furthermore, it is uncertain whether these initiatives address the actual needs of the communities they aim to serve or are primarily geared toward enhancing the reputation of the hospitals. This study aims to examine the role of CSR in improving healthcare service delivery and the extent to which these practices contribute to overall healthcare outcomes in private hospitals in Gombe State.
